P E R S P E C T I V E

On a hike in Cataloochee Valley, I spent some time with a dear friend exploring this old home.  It was a cold and snowy New Year’s Eve, and both of us were at crossroads in our lives.  As we entered this room, the winter light entered through one single window, just brightly enough to make out the details in the wood ceiling and floor.  In looking out the window, however, we could barely make out the old barn across the way.  This image reminds me of the value of perspective—being mindful of the present moment and discerning what is around me rather than spending unnecessary energy on something that has not yet come into focus.
