river fall

This weekend, we spent some time hiking in Cataloochee which is a part of the Great Smoky Mountains.  We stepped off the main trail for a bit and walked on a side trail parallel with the river.  Stopped by the side of the water, we rested our souls for part of the hike.  This poem found me this morning and seemed to fit the occasion just right.

River Fall by David White

We follow

the river’s fall

down through

the mountains

all day, but now

our bodies

have stopped

to rest,

the water still flows on

without us.

  1. We walked these trails for years. They are some of our favorites. Did you know that Bill wrote the Cataloochee section of Hiking Trails of the Great Smokies. I loved the picture and poem.
