a morning prayer

Oh, Great Spirit,

whose voice I hear in the winds

and whose breath gives life to all the world, hear me.

I am small and weak.

I need your strength and wisdom.

Let me walk in beauty and make my eyes

ever behold the red and purple sunset.

Make my hands respect the things you have made

and my ears sharp to hear your voice.

Make me wise so that I may understand

the things you have taught my people.

Let me learn the lessons you have hidden

in every leaf and rock.

I seek strength, not to be superior to my brother,

but to fight my greatest enemy – myself.

Make me always ready to come to you

with clean hands and straight eyes,

so when life fades, as the fading sunset,

my spirit will come to you

without shame.

  1. Greetings from La Crosse! Summer rains have been abundant. Gardens are green and the River is high. It is also time for a few days rest and retreat away from the parish and it has been good. It started with a retreat on the Gift of Food which I had the privilege to facilitate and I also received welcome into a Spiritual Direction Preparation Program right here in town. Don’t know the changes ahead, but it is time to do this! I hope you and yours are well. Busy, I’m sure, with school break and with the farm. My oldest daughter Julia will be headed on vacation next week to Ashville, NC! She is visiting a fellow Music Therapist who is doing her internship there! Julia asked if you ever give tours of “Growing Grace Farm”? She’s starting a master’s of MT and would love to be her own boss someday. She dreams of a therapeutic farm offering retreats for caregivers. She and her MT friends are quite something. Let me know if a visit might be possible and if you are headed to WI sometime! Thanks for sharing your journey and thoughtfulness! Peace, Vicki Lopez-Kaley
