Aahh, the weekend before exams, and my daughter has sequestered herself in her room for the better part of it. What better way to remind her that summer is around the corner than to make her a mid-afternoon treat of blueberry lemonade.
I have discovered that with a juicer, fruit lemonades are easy to make (especially if you cheat and use a store-bought “gourmet” lemonade from the dairy/juice section). So take advantage of those last handfuls of berries and get juicin’.
2 handfuls of berries or fruit (1/ cup)
Lemonade
ice cubes
mint, lavender, ginger or any other natural flavors you’d like to add
Preparation
Juice the berries first in your juicer. Add any other herbs, etc. after the berries.
Here’s the trick: take about a cup of lemonade and pour it into the juicer so that it gets all the of the fruit juice and any small pulp. Add ice cubes to the glass and fill the rest of the way with lemonade. I added a sprig of mint and a few blueberries for garnish.
Some combinations to try:
Strawberry mint
Blueberry, raspberry or blackberry lavender
Ginger peach
Ginger pineapple or mango
Or switch it up and limeade!
