what we need is here

what we need is here

This morning as we rounded the corner to school, we witnessed a wide V of geese honking and flying overhead.  Because of the unseasonal weather we’ve been having, the girls wondered if the bird were flying north or south.  I watched as the silhouette of their flight pattern against a grey morning sky became smaller in the distance.  In that moment, I forgot about the dishes that needed washing at home or the assessments to be completed at work.   In that moment, I became intentionally mindful of my place in Creation, and with it, came peace.

geese in sunGeese appear high over us,

pass, and the sky closes. Abandon,

as in love or sleep, holds

them to their way, clear

in the ancient faith: what we need

is here. And we pray, not

for new earth or heaven, but to be

quiet in heart, and in eye,

clear. What we need is here.
