Lord, may we love all your creation, all the Earth and every grain of sand in it. May we love every leaf, every ray of your light. For we acknowledge to you that all is like an ocean, all is flowing and blending, and that to withhold any measure of love from anything in your universe is to withhold that same measure from you.
I love to go to the beach. To sit at the edge of the shore and watch the water flow in and out, carrying with it pieces of time and matter simply calms my spirit. Scientists say it’s actually something about the ions in the atmosphere, but I beg to differ. I believe it is mantra of the Ocean as it fades in and out of the shore–we are one.
As a young child, I would fight against the waters as they rushed forward to take pieces of my sandcastle or grab the shell I had spotted in the surf. As I grew older, I realized that it is merely a part of creation’s great journey. There is nothing good nor bad about it–the water simply and slowly moves everything forward and backward, blending it altogether–the great Ocean opening its arms and collecting treasures, just like the solitary person gathering shells on the beach at sunrise.
We are all a part of that great Ocean. May we all ebb and flow together in God’s love.
