let’s get this garden started! music to get you in the mood

There’s something about gardening and farming that puts me in the mind of some good Americana, blue grass, country,

love some acoustic guitar

alt country, folk. . .whatever I can’t find on my daughter’s favorite radio stations.  It dawned on me this past weekend that there are some albums (or discs or downloads) that have graced my flowers and veggies with music for more than 10 years.  Given the production out there, I’d say I’ve made some pretty good selections when it comes to music for outdoor work.  So here goes, some of my faves in no particular order:

  • Alison Krauss and Union Station
  • The Jayhawks
  • Ryan Adams
  • Dixie Chicks
  • Nancy Griffith
  • Uncle Tupelo
  • Wilco
  • The Decemberists (The King is Dead)
  • The Avett Brothers
  • Dave Matthews
  • Emmylou Harris
  • The Be Good Tanyas
  • The Wailin’ Jennys
  • John Mellencamp
  • Kasey Chambers
  • Counting Crows
  • Johnny Cash

And anything that comes on Pandora when I create a station using one of these artists or a similar category.  I’m all about expanding my music tastes, and I’m sure the cats are tired of hearing Uncle Tupelo’s Anodyne or the Jayhawks’ Rainy Day Music so if you’ve got any suggestions, let’s hear ’em.  My neighbors will thank you!
